The root of the righteous yields fruit

-- Proverbs 12:12

One of the fathers asked Abba Nastir ...

"What is the best work for me to do?"

And he said to him,

"Not all kinds of labour are the same. For the book says that:
  1. Abraham was a lover of strangers, and that God was with him;
  2. Elijah was a lover of silent contemplation, and that God was with him;
  3. David was a humble man, and God was with him.
Therefore, whatsoever work your soul wishes to do, provided that it be of God, that do, and keep your heart from evil things."

-- St Athanasius of Alexandria.
